This study examines Libya’s maritime borders and their impact on achieving Libyan national security in the current and future context. It explores the significance of maritime boundaries, the concept of national security, and Libya’s strategic location along the Mediterranean Sea. The study considers gains from the extensive coastline that borders both Europe and the vast African desert.
Furthermore, it delves into defining maritime zones based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982) and the Libyan-Turkish memorandum of understanding. The study addresses challenges and threats to security, explores methods to secure these borders, and analyzes their implications for Libya’s stability. Notably, the research highlights the importance of these maritime boundaries and their role in achieving Libyan national security, emphasizing their status as the longest maritime borders in the Mediterranean basin.
