Abstract

This survey aimed to explore the role of the media in the issue of national reconciliation, with the purpose of monitoring the information and programs it has provided on this issue, as well as citizens’ impressions, awareness of reconciliation, the extent of their participation in it, and their levels of satisfaction with the role of the Libyan media in supporting the achievement of national reconciliation.

The current study was designed to cover multiple segments of Libyan society through an electronic questionnaire consisting of (18) closed-ended questions, encompassing all the main and sub-objectives of the study and the related variables, in order to obtain more accurate responses from the sample units under study. A random sample was selected across virtual spaces from different groups, and the study population was divided into categories, with freedom to choose respondents provided that the limits of number and representation were respected.

The study was conducted over a period of (40) days, from October 12 to November 20, 2024, on a sample of (1,200) respondents. These represented the accessible individuals who could be reached as representatives of the Libyan population, estimated at approximately (7) million according to the 2021 statistics. The sample covered age groups ranging from (18) to (73) years and above, in order to achieve the objectives of the survey in identifying Libyan citizens’ opinions on national reconciliation and the role of Libyan media toward it, as well as presenting proposals and solutions that contribute to improving media performance in the issue of national reconciliation
